There are 72 days of this… The wind was fierce today. Fortunately, it was at my back. I set out to run an out and back, but 10k in it occured to me that I really did not want to run into the wind. So, I made a call to my support crew… aka, Lisa. I could keep running south and she’d come pick me up at the appointed time. She timed it perfectly.
How did the saints make out today?

I’d like to know what Captain Cannon said about the proper deportment of females in travelling. I imagine it would be scandalous today. Whatever he said, it didn’t hurt his popularity. I love that he has picked up a nickname, “the Little Capt.” Though, it does not seem to appear in Bartlett’s record again. I wonder if it stuck. And was the name a reference to his physical stature or his age, or something else?
David Henry Cannon was just 23 years old when he took the role of company Captain. He wasn’t without experience. He made his first trip in 1849 at age 11. At 18 he served a mission to California (hey, I served there too. I’m starting to feel an affinity with him). A year after that mission he married Wilhelmina Logan Mousley, and then just 18 months later he found himself on a mission in the British Isles. He took charge of this company on his return from that British mission. Their first child was born in 1860. The Little Captain had a little one at home that he’d likely never met. There are no more missions or pioneer treks listed for him after this one, but he does find himself in St. George, Utah. I imagine he was sent there to help establish that community. David and Wilhemina went on to have 10 children and live to an old age.
