In Matthew 10: 29-31 we read:
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
It can be difficult to believe that amongst the billions that roam the earth that we are known and loved. And when one contemplates the majesty and immensity of the universe it may be more difficult still to think that the very hairs of your head are numbered. Yet, it is so.
As we discussed names for our children I really felt that they should have meaningful names, names that told a story and reminded them that they are loved. We chose Lilli’s name for two reasons. First, it is the conjunction of her mothers’ names: her maternal grandmother Linda Lou and her mother Lisa. Lilli’s middle name is Charlotte after my mother. This is the reason for the choice of the not so common spelling of Lilli. I love the name Lilli for another reason, it reminds me of this teaching of Jesus:
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
When I think of Lilli I am reminded that no matter how I succeed or fail as a parent she is loved and known by God. It reminds me that God’s ways are not my ways and that He operates on a different timescale than I might. It doesn’t stop me fully from fretting and worrying over how I am doing as a parent but it helps.
